Changes during 30th Dáil

2007 General Election

Fianna Fáil 77  Fine Gael 51  Labour 20  Green 6  Sinn Fein 4  Progressive Democrats 2  Independent 5  Ceann Comhairle (Speaker) 1

Rory O'Hanlon (Cavan Monaghan) stands down as Ceann Comhairle, and John O'Donoghue (Kerry South) is elected in his place. A coalition Government is formed between Fianna Fáil (77), the Greens (6) and the Progressive Democrats (2) with support from four Non Party TDs (89 seats), with Bertie Ahern continuing as Taoiseach for a third consecutive term and Brian Cowen as Tánaiste. The four independents supporting the Government were Beverley Flynn, Jackie Healy Rae, Michael Lowry and Finian McGrath.

Bertie Ahern was nominated as Taoiseach by Brian Cowen and seconded by Trevor Sargent. Richard Bruton nominated Enda Kenny; this was seconded by Pat Rabbitte. Bertie Ahern was elected by 89 votes to 76. [ref - PDF p25 (2MB)]

Jimmy Devins, Jim McDaid, Mattie McGrath and Eamon Scanlon, along with Noel Grealish, have continued to vote with the Government (mostly), despite no longer being bound by any party whip. They are unlikely to help defeat the Government in the event of a no confidence vote.)
