Born Monaghan June 1944. Educated Clones High School, Co Monaghan. Full-time Public Representative and Farmer. First elected 1992 and at each subsequent election.

Appointed Deputy front bench spokesperson on Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs June 2002. Member Joint Committee on Social and Family Affairs. Member British-Irish Inter-Parliamentary Body 1993-1997. Fine Gael spokesperson on Food and Horticulture 1993-1994. Member of Monaghan County Council since 1991. Member Irish Farmers' Association since 1965. Representative for Co Monaghan National Council 1965-1979. Chairman of National Livestock Committee 1979-1984. Vice-President of Ulster/North Leinster 1984-1988. Represented the Livestock Committee on COPA in Brussels 1979-1986. Board Member of CBF (Irish Livestock and Meat Board) 1979-1986. Received Bastow Award for service in meat and livestock matters in 1986.Chairman of Aghabog "Buddy Bear Trust" and Board Member of the Dungannon Branch of same organisation.
