First Westminster MP to face a petition under the Recall of MPs Act 2015, following his censure for accepting two luxury holidays from the Sri Lankan government without declaring them. After six weeks of accepting signatures (from 8 August to 19 September 2018) at three centres in his Antrim North constituency and by post, 7,099 people signed the petition, short of the 7,543 required to force a by election (9.4% against the 10% of the 75,428 electorate required). Counting took place immediately after the petition closed at midnight on 19 September 2018.
