Fianna Fail Front Bench spokesperson on Education and the Gaeltacht 1995-1997. Former Chairman of the Oireachtas All Party Committee on the Irish Language. Member Cork Corporation 1985-1997 (Lord Mayor of Cork 1992-1993). Former member of the Governing Body, UCC and of the Governing Body RTC. Former member of the ASTI. Former National Chairman of Ogra Fianna Fail and was a member of the Commission on the Aims and Structures of Fianna Fail. Winner of the Cork Examiner Political Speaker of the Year Award 1987.
