Born Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow, 25th January 1951. Married to Mary Forde two sons, two daughters. Educated De La Salle School, Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow and Cistercian College, Roscrea. First elected November 1982. Lost his seat in 1997 but regained it in 2002. Ministerial Advisor 1997-2002. Formerly director of family confectionery firm.

Member Joint Committees on Enterprise and Small Business; on Finance and the Public Service. Member of the Senate December 2001 to June 2002 and 1981-1982. Nominated to the Seanad by Charles Haughey in 1981. Member of Gang of Four who attempted to oust Haughey in September 1991. Member of Carlow County Council since 1979. Member Carlow UDC 1985-1998. Member Muinebheag Town Commission 1973-1985. Member of Oireachtas rugby team. Son of Tom Nolan TD 1965-1981, Minister for Labour 1980-81.
